Chicago Plan Commission

The Chicago Plan Commission plays a pivotal role in shaping the city’s growth and infrastructure by reviewing key development projects, including Planned Developments (PDs), the Lakefront Protection Ordinance, Planned Manufacturing Districts (PMDs), Industrial Corridors, and Tax Increment Financing (TIF) Districts. The commission also oversees public land transactions and long-range community plans, ensuring that Chicago’s development aligns with the city's strategic vision.

Established in 1909, this commission has driven major urban planning initiatives and economic growth projects, impacting both residents and the business community. Comprised of 23 members, including distinguished appointees, the commission ensures that all projects are evaluated for long-term sustainability and value.

Monthly meetings, held every third Thursday, provide an opportunity for community engagement, transparency, and guidance on impactful projects. The Commission’s work is instrumental in supporting Chicago’s position as a forward-thinking, resilient, and prosperous city.
